seven trent water recycler

Severn Trent Water has introduced a Fuller 18-Tonne Continuous Recycling Unit to their fleet of Jet/Vac Sewer Cleaning vehicles. Following a presentation of the concept by Fuller Tankers, Severn Trent embanked on a through analysis of the cost implications of this concept, comparing a conventional Jet/Vac Tanker with continuous Recycling Tankers.

A number of issues were considered; firstly a model of an actual job was compared.  A conventional Jet/Vac on a 4-hour jetting job to remove 4cu.metre debris/sludge/silt.  The water consumption @ 60 galls/min taking 60% operation time was 8650 gallons requiring 9 refills of the water compartment of an 18-tonne Unit.  The model created showed the break down time as 9 minutes per move, the average travelling time was 24 minutes, the filling time was 9 minutes and setting up again was 8 minutes.  Therefore the total “dead” time amounted to 7hrs 30 mins.

Adding the jetting time to the lost time involves the team for two days, therefore a return to depot would be needed.

The cost of fuel in addition to the normal use would by £28.00 approx., plus a return to base.

The second consideration was the water usage.  Saving on average 18cu.metre of drinking quality water everyday and the resultant energy savings from not having to travel to and from jobs represents a major factor.  The ability to recycle the debris through the system filtered down to 250 microns leaving a semi-dry load gives additional savings on any landfill costs.  The water content being normally about 50% of the weight, where as, after decanting it would be about 15% making a saving of approx. 1.9-tonnes per tipping.

Finally and very importantly, having the ability to set up a job including the positioning of Signage, Cones and Barriers and to remain in position for the duration of the job, has huge health and safety considerations, over leaving to replenish water several times.

The benefits of recycling are greatest on sewer cleaning work, wet well and interception cleaning has some benefits by way of decanting and tipping costs.  The water usage is low and not a significant factor consequently, conventional Jet/Vacs will continue in any case in that role.

Fuller Tankers will continue to work together with S.T.W. for monitoring and training.

The Fuller Recycler 18 tonne version uses the HPT30 Pressure intensifier capable of 250 litres/min @ 200 Bar. The very slow moving piston is hydraulically driven and has been designed specifically to handle recycled water.

The filtration for this pump consists of one self-cleaning screen and one hydro cyclone terminating through 150metres of 25mm Jetting Hose. This enables continuous recycling with little maintenance. XL 150 Liquid Ring capable of 1200 cfm. 150mm Hydraulic Boom
